HCT Cheese Blog – Brennan’s Four Year Cheddar
Today’s HCT Cheese Blog is about one of our most frequent purchases and favorite utilitarian cheeses, namely Brennan’s Four Year Cheddar.
Biographical Information:
- Brennan’s Four Year Cheddar
- Purchased from Brennan’s Market (Madison, West Side)
- Made in Wisconsin
This bright orange beauty is our household’s gold standard for sharp cheddars. Sharp without being too sharp, creamy but not soft, dry without being too dry, it’s great. Brennan’s cheddar is easily sliced, but it also crumbles well, and makes an excellent topping for many dishes.
In particular we love to use it on American style (aka Tex-Mex aka mainstream) Tacos.
Here you can see Brennan’s Four Year Cheddar on a plate of yummy tacos chock-full of healthy ingredients. Organic tomatoes, black olives, local organic lettuce from our CSA farm, organic taco shells, etc. The cheese really helps make Taco Night here at the HCT compound.
This gets my absolute highest recommendation. 5+/5 stars.
Update:
I have had to go back and correct this entry, as I’m not sure that Brennan’s featured cheddar is in fact from Hook’s. Sometimes Brennan’s uses a specific local artisanal cheese as a store brand, and sometimes they do not. I can’t recall any more if it was advertised that particular day as being specifically from Hook’s; if I was wrong I apologize. Wherever they do source it, the four-year cheddar from Brennan’s is in fact as good as described above, and very consistent.
