HCT Cheese Blog – Fresh Basil Farmer

Welcome to the first edition of the Here Comes Tomorrow Cheese Blog, a weekly (at least) feature/sub-blog in the Here Comes Tomorrow media empire.

Basically, the HCT Cheese Blog exists to showcase, as well as show off, the incredible variety of delicious cheese you can obtain here in the Madison, Wisconsin area.  This is both to entertain and torment those of you living outside our little dairyland shangri-la.

(In all seriousness, Madison has some of the best food I’ve ever seen anywhere.  You can get amazing dairy products, of course, as you might expect in Wisconsin.  But you can also find countless fantastic restaurants, lots of great beer, organic vegetables and healthy food, all over town.)

Now that the exposition’s over, on to the cheese of the day:

Biographical Information:

  • Fresh Farmer Basil
  • Purchased from Brennan’s Market (West Side, Madison)
  • Made in Wisconsin

This little cheese has rapidly become one of my favorites from Wisconsin.  In a nutshell, you get a nice, semi-soft (think swiss, maybe, in terms of texture) Farmer cheese with large pieces of fresh basil folded in.

The cheese is rich and slightly chewy, while the basil adds a nice herbal tang.  This cheese makes fantastic finger food, but also goes very well with pasta or Italian food, as one might expect.

Highly recommended.  5/5 Stars.
