The book in question seems to be an old Andre Norton sci-fi book about sentient cats. You can buy it used on Amazon in paperback if you like.  I have no idea why a pulp sci-fi book is in the paranormal section of her school library. Or why the school library *has* a paranormal section, for that matter, as my roommate pointed out.

A touch political I suppose. Oh well.
