You had me at "The Democratic Party is a Pro-Wrestling Federation." I immediately recognized the parallel you were about to draw - and you're right, it is surprising that no one (that I know of) has made this connection before now. I had similar thoughts recently, but with regards to the entire political theater - and I do mean theater - not just the Dems.

I thought about how Democrats and Republicans seemed to "switch sides" as it pertained to civil rights, with the Reps once being the party seemingly in favor of equal rights for African-Americans, and the Dems being the party of once-slavers, only to see most African-Americans today voting Democratic. I thought about Obama coming on the scene as a pretty strong leftist, then moving towards the middle as his election strategy required. I remembered Al Gore being a staunch environmentalist, only to make certain concessions with regards to emissions during his career, and then revert back to his original position after he left office.

All of our politicians seem to flip flop with the times, with whatever they perceive to be the desires of their electorate, or whatever they can do within the allowable range of those desires and still be re-elected. I thought - still think - of the whole thing as some cabal of [mostly] old(er) men, attending to their own whims and playing this act of opposition between party platforms just for show. It's right around the time this started that I became completely disillusioned with politics...

Anyway, this is a great post.
