I read somewhere that they have memorandums of understanding with other departments, so I don't know that the Uni really had to send them, so much as they had to be requested. At the same time, there is no way they could be such a visible and sizable portion of the police presence without her approval. None. Both Madison and Dane County pulled their cops from the illegal seizure over concerns about safety and legality; UW cops stayed on board. They had more than enough cover to bolt when the sheriff of Dane County came out and blasted Walker and the DOA in a press conference with the DA.
